She works with her teachers when she is not sure of an answer, and throughout this school year, she has gained more confidence in herself! She has grown so much already this year, and we love seeing her participate and try her best. She exemplifies SOARing because she is always being safe by staying on Class related sites. She is on task and willing to participate daily. She tries her best to remain positive and self-regulate when needed, and she is responsible by having her materials near her during class. Amaya has personally impacted me because I see how far she has come since the beginning of the school year. She has learned how to self-regulate more, and she never gives up! She may get upset if she is not sure of an answer, but she does not let that stop her from continuing to contribute."

"On the day we took our IA in early October, Kelton stayed in class for the entirety of the available IA time. I reached out to him through Securly to see if everything was ok. He let me know he had already finished the IA, but that he knew there was another student still testing and he didn't want them to feel awkward for being the last one left, so he was just hanging out working on other things. He wanted to stay so the other student didn't feel out of place or bad for being last. His actions that day said so much about his character as a human. He did not have to do that. He was finished and could have logged off and gone on with his day. The fact that he even noticed was more than I think most would have noticed. His actions really blew me away!! I know he may struggle academically and all of his grades aren't the best (or even passing), but I'd rather teach 100 students with his character than 100 who make all As but do not show consideration for others. In addition to being a stand-up human who cares about others, he actively engages in class with his camera on, and will come on the mic from time to time. On Fridays, he likes to be the one to close out class for the last couple of minutes by playing guitar for all of us! Today (Halloween), he attended class in a clown suit with a big red nose! It was great!!! He brings the energy level in the class up so much! I really think HIS energy and participation is so helpful in the energy and participation of other students. Students bring so much more value to the table than good grades. I understand that it may be difficult to recognize Kelton as student of the month when he isn't passing all of his classes, but I really feel like he should be recognized in some way. He is an outstanding individual and our class (and GCA) is better because of him!"

Now that she is in my class, she continues to show that same dedication to growth and strives for excellence each and every day. She speaks up and asks questions, demonstrating a willing to take academic risks that is uncommon for a 9th grade student. The questions she asks help propel our discussions forward, often bringing new insights to the conversation. Her commitment to learning and improving her skills paid off, and I was able to celebrate with Anna her highest ever score on an ELA Interim Assessment! In addition to her growth mindset, Anna consistently shows an awesome attitude each and every day in Ninth Grade Literature. Student Name: Kai M.
AIM Math
"Kai is always one of the first students to join our AIM Math class sessions. He is usually on camera and is always quick to answer questions in chat and come on the mic to read our learning target or notes pages and to explain how to solve math problems. He has a positive attitude about school and math and sets a great example for others. I especially love his willingness to work through math problems without a calculator and how he shares his methods for calculations through our class chat. Keep up the great work, Kai!"

"Maci is doing great as a new student here at GCA. She stays engaged the entire time during live class by participating in the chat, on her webcam and on the microphone. Maci shows an interest in being healthy and is a positive influence on her peers in class. She was one of the few students who took the time to send me an optional assignment. Keep working hard Maci and thank you for your dedication in my class!"

Student Name: Isaac A.
Math
"Isaac is such a joy to teach. He comes to class every day ready to learn. He always has his camera on. I can always count on him to participate on external platforms, such as nearpod, IXL, and Quizziz. Isaac stood out this month because he got out of his comfort zone. I challenged his period to come on the mic and "rap" some lyrics that would help them remember the 5-number summary (Min, Q1, Q2, Q3, Max). Isaac volunteered. He shared on the mic that he only volunteered for the PBIS Points. Nonetheless, he went the extra mile. Not only did he nail the lyrics, but he also added his own beat. After his performance, more students were encouraged to participate. As his teacher, I appreciate his heart in it all."

Student Name: Reina H.
Science
"Reina is the most positive example we can have for all students to follow. She checks off all the boxes everyday consistently. She is always on camera, always engaged, always digging deep to understand the concepts. She helps her classmates, works well in groups, and shares her learning with others. Her consistency above all is why I think she should be student of the month. She never stops demonstrating all of SOAR. She stays on GCA approved websites during class. She stays engaged during class. She has an awesome attitude about school and learning, and she is highly responsible, completing all coursework before and during class as requested. She is a joy to teach, and a pleasure to get to know in class. I am blessed to have her in my class this semester. I already regret that I will not get to spend the whole year with her this year."

"Rebecca is the embodiment of the SOAR Matrix. She rarely misses a class, and I never have to ask her to have her camera on. She does it automatically. She always has a smile on her face, and I can tell that she enjoys being a GCA Champion. She is active in class, always telling her classmates good morning, and is quick to offer encouragement and praise to her classmates for a job well done. I am fortunate to work with her, and I appreciate her striving for excellence every single day!"

"Joshua's hard work and enthusiasm in Algebra is noticed! You consistently encourage others and participate actively, making a big difference in our class. Keep up the fantastic work! He is always contributing to the chat and on camera doing his work. He is highly engaged in a class where engagement is very low. He is undeterred and keeps adding to the class!"

"Despite starting at GCA in August, Becca has quickly demonstrated what it means to SOAR. She eagerly volunteered to be the student liaison for her class, helping new students feel welcome and supported. Every day, Becca steps up to read aloud, actively participates in class discussions, and offers helpful answers to her peers’ questions in the chat. Her enthusiasm, leadership, and dedication are truly inspiring!"
