Student Name: Khloe S.
Kindergarten
"Khloe is a GCA champion and she SOARs everyday! On her first day with us she jumped right into participation using the chat, emojis, and showing her work on camera! She enjoys being at the podium view in class. From there she's able to showcase her work and share her ideas with classmates! She's on task everyday and always has great work to share with us. During ELA you can find Khloe writing down letters and sight words. During math she uses her whiteboard to write addition equations and draws pictures to show her work. On the mic she's great at talking things out with us even if an answer is tricky and doesn't give up! Her positive attitude towards learning definitely shows everyday! We also really appreciate how responsible and respectful she is! She loves using the chat and mic for learning. We know we can count on her to follow the rules for those classroom tools. Overall Khloe has been a wonderful addition to our class and a joy to teach!"

He works hard every day to complete his assignments, and he is always participating and interacting with his teachers and classmates. Vedram shows perseverance when he is faced with any new challenges. His Learning Coach is always there to provide him with the support that he needs to help him be a successful learner! Vedram and his family exemplify how to be successful at GCA. His LC is always asking questions about how to make his learning journey easier for both of them. She is there to redirect him during lessons if needed. They practice (outside of school hours) the skills taught during the day. They make teaching and learning at GCA a quality experience.

Marissa has found ways to complete assignments in the small windows of times she was able to get power and internet. She was without power and internet at her home until last Thursday, yet she completed all of her missing work and was in class first thing Thursday morning, ready to learn and participate in class. I told her she could have all the time she needed to make up work, but she insisted on getting it finished so she did not fall behind. Marissa is a great example of persevering through adversity."

Student Name: Kelton B.
Math
"On the day we took our IA in early October, Kelton stayed in class for the entirety of the available IA time. I reached out to him through Securly to see if everything was ok. He let me know he had already finished the IA, but that he knew there was another student still testing and he didn't want them to feel awkward for being the last one left, so he was just hanging out working on other things. He wanted to stay so the other student didn't feel out of place or bad for being last. His actions that day said so much about his character as a human. He did not have to do that. He was finished and could have logged off and gone on with his day. The fact that he even noticed was more than I think most would have noticed. His actions really blew me away!! I know he may struggle academically and all of his grades aren't the best (or even passing), but I'd rather teach 100 students with his character than 100 who make all As but do not show consideration for others. In addition to being a stand-up human who cares about others, he actively engages in class with his camera on, and will come on the mic from time to time. On Fridays, he likes to be the one to close out class for the last couple of minutes by playing guitar for all of us! Today (Halloween), he attended class in a clown suit with a big red nose! It was great!!! He brings the energy level in the class up so much! I really think HIS energy and participation is so helpful in the energy and participation of other students. Students bring so much more value to the table than good grades. I understand that it may be difficult to recognize Kelton as student of the month when he isn't passing all of his classes, but I really feel like he should be recognized in some way. He is an outstanding individual and our class (and GCA) is better because of him!"

Student Name: Anna B.
ELA
"Anna has such a love of learning and desire to grow as a student that she actually reached out to me at the end of last school year and asked for tips on how to improve her skills in English language arts; in particular, she needed practice resources that better prepare her to demonstrate her understanding on assessments. Now that she is in my class, she continues to show that same dedication to growth and strives for excellence each and every day. She speaks up and asks questions, demonstrating a willing to take academic risks that is uncommon for a 9th grade student. The questions she asks help propel our discussions forward, often bringing new insights to the conversation. Her commitment to learning and improving her skills paid off, and I was able to celebrate with Anna her highest ever score on an ELA Interim Assessment! In addition to her growth mindset, Anna consistently shows an awesome attitude each and every day in Ninth Grade Literature. She is one of the first students to turn on her camera, and is often joined by her dog KJ who has become an unofficial class mascot. During Red Ribbon Week, both Anna AND KJ participated in each of the theme days and really set the tone for a fun week of school spirit. Anna is a true Champion who deserves to have her SOARing efforts and accomplishments recognized!"
