- 🏆Awards & Recognition
The Georgia Department of Education recognizes districts and schools for supporting positive school climate through the implementation of the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) framework. The purpose of the recognition system is to identify schools that exemplify best practices in the implementation of PBIS. School outcomes are recognized as either Emerging, Operational, or Distinguished.
For the 2023-2024 school year, Georgia Cyber Academy was named as an Operational School - meeting 4 of 4 outcome data measures.
“This is great news for our very young PBIS program”, said Kascha Adeleye, Instructional Support Services Director, “Our big goal is to become distinguished!”
All Emerging, Operational, and Distinguished recognized schools are listed on the GaPBIS webpage and receive a certificate of recognition from the GaDOE. In addition, Operational and Distinguished schools receive a letter of recognition from the State Superintendent.
PBIS is an evidence-based, tiered framework for supporting students’ behavioral, academic, social, emotions, and mental health. When implementing PBIS with fidelity, GCA is able to improve social emotional competence, academic success, and school climate. PBIS also improves teacher health and wellbeing. The SOAR matrix has allowed GCA to implement PBIS into the virtual classroom. Through SOAR, students are being taught positive behavior strategies and expectations. When teachers model the expectations and implement the PBIS strategies, students soar as learners with less behaviors interrupting valuable class time.
