Georgia Cyber Academy is excited to continue to offer a First Robotics Competition Team beginning in September 2024 to high school students in the Atlanta Area. Our team will practice at Johnson STEM Activity Center.

If transportation is an issue, we may be able to work with you but you must fill out the waiver in the transportation section below. If your child can drive themselves, carpool or rideshare with another student or if you can drive them to and from events/practice, that would be preferred so that we can utilize funds for competitions or students who do not have access to transportation. There are no guarantees, but we will try to ensure everyone who needs transportation has access, if possible. The times and dates of practice/meetings will be determined once we have enough student interest to make those arrangements.

This is a team that meets once weekly during first semester, and 2-3 weekly-meeting times during the competition season in second semester. Students will work with Coach(es) from GCA Staff and sometimes volunteers from other organizations or teams, such as college students, parent volunteers, mentors from FIRST and support from other teams. All adult volunteers will undergo a background check process.

There are a few requirements to be on the team. Students must be-
-Able to meet in person approximately two times/week
-No attendance issues during the school year, must pass their classes
-Be able to work with others
-Be respectful of others
-Contribute to the team/robot
-9th-12th grade GCA Student
-Live in the Atlanta area (less than one hour away)
-Be able to travel to competitions in Georgia (2-4 events). More details will be provided before a commitment is required.

The GCA Beta chapter started with 25 members at the beginning of the 2021/2022 school year. Our current member roster has grown to 85 students. Our GCA Beta Executive Board is comprised of a diverse group of students across several secondary grade bands using Roberts Rules of Order to conduct all Beta meetings.

Throughout the year, our club participated in several group projects including soup distribution for Souper Jenny and a virtual Earth Day celebration. GCA Beta students had a combined service hour submission of over 1500 hours of service performed in and around their community. We are proud to have achieved both School of Merit and School of Distinction awards from National Beta and look forward to continuing to grow our GCA Beta into the future.

Georgia Cyber Academy Named National Beta School of Distinction

National Beta is proud to announce that Georgia Cyber Academy is a 2021-2022 National Beta School of Distinction. The school earned this recognition by increasing their club’s membership by at least 10% from last year.

National Beta School of Distinction is an honor for Beta clubs striving towards academic achievement, exemplary character, demonstrated leadership and service to others. With an ongoing quest to instill these qualities in more students, the National Beta School of Distinction Award is designed to award those schools that show an increase in membership from the previous school year. This year, only 2,250 Beta Clubs across the country received this award.

In a congratulatory letter to the school, Bobby Hart, CEO said “This national award speaks highly of your commitment to academic excellence and illustrates your dedication to preparing students for their future.”

Award recipients will receive a National Beta School of Distinction banner to proudly display as a symbol of their accomplishment.
