Enhanced Learning Days
Enhanced Learning Days (ELD) provide GCA teachers with a unique opportunity to approach student learning in a new way, including providing students with enrichment, remediation and/or special supports. On these days, teachers will utilize a combination of asynchronous and live instruction to meet academic expectations, as well as the individual needs of students. ELD class sessions are open to all students, and required for those invited. Students will also be expected to participate in open office hours if support is needed, and complete any outstanding assignments.
Teachers will utilize the time frame of 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. to conduct live instruction in a virtual format during their designated content segments. When not conducting live instruction, teachers will hold open office hours for their students to attend. During the office hours, teachers are available to provide targeted academic support and assist students with any additional questions regarding their content coursework. This would allow students an added opportunity to work on remediation as it relates to closing any deficits, and to get any further support needed. Teachers will monitor documentation of attendance, accommodations provided and the specific academic support the student received.
For students who receive any of our support services, Specially designed instruction is intended to meet the unique needs of a child with a disability. Special education is not limited to a typical school environment and must be provided in a variety of other settings, to the extent necessary to provide a free appropriate public education (FAPE)(34 CFR 300.39(a)(1)). Enhanced Learning Days provide GCA teachers with the ability to approach student learning in a new way, including how to provide supports and services to students with disabilities. On these days, teachers will utilize asynchronous instruction to meet academic expectations, as well as the individual needs of students, as indicated in their IEPs.
