Honors Graduates

•Summa Cum Laude: Graduates who have maintained a cumulative grade point average of 4.0 or better and have at least two units of Advanced Placement or Dual Enrollment courses.

•Magna Cum Laude: Graduates who have maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.75 – 3.99 and have at least two units of Advanced Placement or Dual Enrollment courses.

•Cum Laude: Graduates who have maintained a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.75.

•Valedictorian s the summa cum laude graduate who has the highest GPA.

•Salutatorian is the summa cum laude graduate who has the second highest GPA.

*2nd semester senior grades excluded from calculations

What is Honors Day?

The Honors program is designed to recognize students for achievement in the area of academics, citizenship, school spirit, and service.

Students being recognized will receive an invitation prior to Honors day. Students receiving awards must arrive by 12:00 pm

Attire: Business casual attire is required. Students should not wear jeans, t-shirts, flip-flops, or tennis shoes for this ceremony

A professional photographer will be on-site to take pictures during the event.

Honors Day FAQ's

What type of awards are given at the Honors Day ceremony?

Department awards (each department will recognize a student for their achievements in the course), Special Recognitions, Honor cords, & Valedictorian & Salutatorian medals.

Do I need to purchase a stole for NHS or Beta Club?

Senior NHS and Beta club members can purchase stoles to wear over their gowns. Additional information can be obtained from your club sponsor regarding the price & ordering of the honor cords.

Students being recognized will receive an invitation by early May.

PARKING

Georgia Aquarium’s parking deck is located on the CORNER of Ivan Allen Jr. Blvd and Luckie Street. This is the only official Georgia Aquarium parking deck.

If you are driving yourself or if your parents will be parking for the duration of prom, please pull a ticket upon arrival and bring it inside for validation. General parking is $20. If you validate your ticket at the prom check-in table, it will only cost $15

Student Drop-Off Options:

Parent/Uber drop off street side- there is a walkway entrance to the Oceans Ballroom on Ivan Allen Jr. Blvd- students can be dropped at the walkway and the driver does not have to enter the parking deck
Parent drop off in deck- enter the deck from Ivan Allen Jr. Blvd and retrieve a parking ticket. Immediately u-turn to the left and drop students off at the entrance to the ballroom. You will not be charged for parking if you drop off and exit the deck.
Parking in deck- all parking for prom attendance will be validated upon student exit at prom.

When will I receive my Cap and Gown?

Herff Jones will begin sending them mid-April.

How many guests can I invite to graduation?

To comply with social distancing requirements, a ticket will be required to attend the 2021 graduation. The goal is to provide students with 10 tickets but this is not guaranteed. We are working on a process to share unneeded tickets with students who need more than the amount given. More details will be provided.

Can I decorate my graduation cap?

Graduates may decorate their caps, however, designs must be approved by the student's counselor prior to adding to the cap. Students who arrive at graduation with a decorated cap that has not been approved will not walk in the graduation ceremony.

What should I wear to graduation?

Male Graduates – solid-colored slacks and dress shoes; no tennis shoes/sneakers or flip flops; collared shirts

Female Graduates – preferably a dress not longer than the length of the graduation robe and no shorter than 2 inches above the knee, dress shoes, no flip flops or tennis shoes/sneakers; capris and jeans are not allowed.

Attire should be modest and fitting for this occasion

If I don’t pass all of my classes to graduate but will try in the summer to graduate, can I still walk on the May 20th Graduation Ceremony?

Unfortunately, a student that has not graduated thus passed all courses required to be a graduate cannot walk in the ceremony. Please meet with your counselor to determine a plan.

Will snacks be provided?

No, snacks will not be provided to the students.

Graduation Event Security and Safety

In order to create a safe and enjoyable experience for all guests, the following safety and security measures are implemented at Infinite Energy Center.

We have instituted a clear bag policy to provide the most effective, contactless screening possible. All guests will be required to have their bags checked and pass through a metal detector. Metal detectors are an effective method for Event Security to safely screen guests and prevent prohibited items from entering the building. In order to increase the efficiency of these machines, guests are asked to keep the following guidelines in mind when attending an event:

Arrive early in preparation for additional security measures
Limit the number of personal items brought into the venue in order to expedite the screening process
Prepare for a clear bag check by Event Security. If you have a diaper bag or medical bag, follow appropriate signage to the proper screening area.
Place your cell phone, camera and purse on the screening table and prepare to walk through the metal detector.
Guests will be subject to a secondary screening process if the alarm sounds when passing through the walk-through metal detector.
An alternative security screening is available to guests who are: expectant mothers, wheelchair-bound or have a medical condition.

Diploma Package/ Cap and Gown Package

The diploma package is $40 and includes your diploma and diploma cover. The cap and gown package is $110 and includes your cap, gown, stole, tassel, diploma and cover. Please note: If you order before February 1, you pay no shipping, after and until March 31 add $15 shipping, after and until April 26 add $25 for shipping. The last day to order both packages is April 26.

NOT to be confused with a letterman jacket. These jackets are LIGHTWEIGHT and have the feel of a heavy hoodie. The jacket comes completely decorated and includes your name on the right, a varsity letter logo on the left, your graduation year on one sleeve and the school crest on the other. An oversized patch of the GCA mascot is on the back. All this for the flat rate of $213 (includes fees and shipping)
