Parent Volunteer Opportunities

Regional/Local

Region Lead:

Leads the effort to recruit regional parent leaders, and helps organize, promote, and execute events/outings in their specific area of interest.

Regional Parent Leader:

Organizes, promotes, and executes events/outings in their specific area of interest.

Parent Mentor:

Mentors new and returning learning coaches (online and/or face to face) by providing tools, tips, and strategies that will enhance the GCA educational experience.

Region Facebook Group Moderator:

Moderates regional GCA PTSO Facebook groups.

GCA PTSO Committees

Membership Committee:

The focus of the committee is to obtain membership, communicate with current members through email and monthly newsletters, and keep accurate and current data related to the current PTSO members.

Volunteer Committee:

Sort the data obtained from the Volunteer Interest form into a separate database used by Committee Chairs to obtain volunteers for their committee’s

Regional Lead Committee:

The Chair of this committee will sit on the executive board as a voting member. To be eligible, one must be a parent or teacher with a child that attends GCA and be a member in good standing of the GCA PTSO.

Nominating Committee:

Chaired by Vice President. A nominating committee composed of the current Vice President and at least one additional officer (may not include the current president) and 2 members of the organization.

Website Committee:

Design the layout, and maintain all data placed on the GCA PTSO website except for the online store which is maintained by the Treasurer and Vice Treasurer.

Virtual Book Club Committee:

Organize the Elementary, Middle, and High School Virtual Book Club. Committee Chair and members help coordinate book selection, marketing of club, book club leaders, and monitoring of all online book club sessions held virtually.

Coach Café:

The Coach Café has experienced learning coaches hosting sessions to help other coaches find answers to their questions. Committee members are available at the monthly virtual sessions to help fellow learning coaches, sessions usually start in early September.

Statewide Testing and Support Committee:

Coordinate volunteers from the volunteer database to help teachers and staff during Milestone Testing.

State-wide Testing

Proctor:

Assist and support GCA testing staff with escorting and monitoring students during testing breaks. (Background Check required)

Sign-in/Sign-out:

Assist and support GCA testing staff with Learning Coach and student sign-in and sign-out.

Assist with sign in and out
Assist with directing students to their assigned testing room
Communicate to families the process of signing in or out
Greet families as they enter or leave the test site

Parent leadership is successfully achieved when parents and educational professionals build effective partnerships and share responsibilities, expertise, and leadership in decisions being made that affect student success, families, and communities. GCA parents and learning coaches have many opportunities to participate in this program including regional volunteer opportunities, GCA PTSO committees, academic student support, state-wide testing, and more.

The Parent Volunteer Program is a way to involve parents in the experiences of their children and to take an active interest in student success. The Volunteer Program also helps increase community engagement and academic achievement.

Background Checks

Volunteers who will have unsupervised contact with students are required have a Georgia
criminal history record completed prior to volunteering. The level of volunteerism will determine
the type of background check required.

Volunteers are grouped into three levels:

Level 1: volunteers are non-district personnel who will have no direct interaction with students

Level 2: volunteers are non-district personnel who will have direct interaction with students with other adults present at all times. School personnel will obtain a copy of the volunteer's State Issued ID and process it through the State and National Sex Offender Registry ID scan program Raptor for all Level 2 volunteers.

Level 3: volunteers are non-district personnel who will have direct, unsupervised interaction with
students. Level 3 volunteers must be fingerprinted by the district and have GBI/FBI criminal
background checks on file before service.

Please Note: If you do not have a state-issued ID you cannot be a Level 2 or Level 3 volunteer.
