WBL Overview
Work-Based Learning (WBL) is an educational strategy that provides students with real-life work experiences where they can apply academic and technical skills and develop their employability. It is a series of educational courses which integrate the school or university curriculum with the workplace to create a different learning paradigm.
WBL aims at a win-win situation where the learner's needs and the industry requirement for skilled and talented employees both are met. WBL provides career awareness, career exploration opportunities, career planning activities and helps students attain competencies such as positive work attitudes and other employability skills.
WBL encompasses a diversity of structured work experiences including apprenticeships, internships, work placements, and informal learning on the job.
WBL at Georgia Cyber Academy
Georgia Cyber Academy (GCA) is a 100% tuition-free, online, accredited, Georgia public charter school for students in grades K-12. At present, GCA has at least one student in every county and school district in the state of Georgia. In order to make WBL opportunities available to all eligible high school juniors and seniors at our school, GCA has established Georgia's first statewide WBL program!
Currently, we have partnerships with over 75+ businesses throughout the state that provide placements for our students. Members of our WBL team conduct several in-person visits to each business throughout the school year to monitor students' progress and ensure their safety and well-being.
In addition to gaining hands-on work experience through a job placement, students also receive instruction in occupational skills, career exploration, and guidance in identifying employment and educational goals.
