Teacher of the Year
Marian Hoyt
We are pleased to announce that Second Grade teacher, Marian Hoyt, has been named GCA’s 2023 District Teacher of the Year.
Marian goes above and beyond for her students and colleagues. She is incredibly helpful, and always has something positive to say. Her resources are endless - much like her passion for teaching.
– GCA PGB Teacher
Marian’s inspiration comes from her single-parent upbringing and her compassionate grandmother. With a decade-long teaching experience in Cobb County schools and now entering her second year at Georgia Cyber Academy, Marian has taught 1st-4th grades and is deeply passionate about nurturing the whole child. She values understanding each student's background, fostering strong relationships with both students and their families, and believes in building confidence and self-esteem, particularly in children facing challenges.
Marian's "why" stems from her own childhood experiences of shyness and rejection, driving her dedication to helping struggling students feel successful and confident. She emphasizes the importance of enthusiasm and passion in teaching, echoing Dave Burgess's philosophy from "Teach Like a Pirate." Marian's commitment extends beyond the classroom, exemplified by her efforts to support underprivileged families during the pandemic. Her goal is not only to impact students academically but to be remembered as a funny, genuine, and caring individual who inspires joy and a love for learning in her students.
Marian is an incredibly hard worker. I have had the pleasure of working with Marian for 2 years. She goes above and beyond for her students every single day! She is consistent, loving, encouraging and all around a great teacher. She ensures learning coaches are comfortable with tasks, working after hours most days to create job aids and videos. Marian is amazing!
