2020 Teacher of the Year
Teacher of the Year is an honors program that focuses public attention on excellence in teaching. Candidates are carefully considered, and a recipient is selected which best represents all the talents, strengths, and values of the district. Georgia Cyber Academy (GCA) is pleased to announce that High School teacher, Deirdre Daniels, has been named GCA’s District Teacher of the Year.
Deirdre grew up in a family of educators and says that she felt called into education as a servant to students and others. Her goal is to see the achievement gap close until the gaps become so narrow that subgroups no longer exist, and all students are thriving in healthy, positive classroom environments. She believes that teachers have the responsibility to be lifelong learners, which means sharing with others what they learn about teaching and realizing all the things that they have not yet discovered.
Deirdre has truly found her passion and her voice in serving the new teachers here at Georgia Cyber Academy (GCA) as a mentor in the new teacher training program. She has served our high school in all the roles available to a teacher leader: department chair, point of contact, presenter, and mentor. In her role, she has impacted so many teachers within and outside of her department.
“She is a great example of what GCA stands for;” said a faculty member, “she provides a differentiated, student-centered, educational experience and is a great pioneer when establishing new relationships while working collaboratively with others. She keeps a positive attitude and has infectious laughter. [Her] positivity will make you feel empowered and recharged. She is a great example of what a great GCA teacher is and should be.”
Deirdre will go on to represent GCA at the state level for the 2020-2021 Georgia Teacher of the Year. Learn more about the Georgia Teacher of the Year program
