GED/Drop Out of School
GED/Dropping Out of School Process
Students dropping out of school must be 16 years old plus one day. Students enrolling in a GED program are still considered to be a school dropout per the Georgia Department of Education. Instead of dropping out, students are encouraged to consider a home study withdrawal to prepare for a future GED program. The legal guardian or student (if at least 18 years old) will notify the student’s Family Success Liaison (FSL) of the intended dropout withdrawal. The legal guardian or student (if at least 18 years old) will complete the K12 Parent Withdrawal DocuSign form.
Prior to the withdrawal, Dropout Prevention Counseling will be completed by the student’s counselor to provide other options for the student. The counselor will also discuss the consequences of dropping out such as a lifetime of lower earnings, fewer jobs for which the student will be qualified, and the inability to avail oneself of higher educational opportunities.
