Pre-Admission Testing
Who takes pre-admission testing?
Kindergarten students take a pre-admission screener with a student support person online.
1st - 8th Grade students take pre-admission tests (Reading and Math) online while a live test examiner proctors the students.
When do students take pre-admission testing?
Pre-admission testing is offered to students Monday-Friday from 10am-12pm. You will be invited to start testing as early as the week before your student’s official start date, but you are welcome to choose which days are best to take those tests, prior to your start date. You will receive emails on how to get to the pre-admission online testing sessions starting the week before your start date.
If you do not have your school computer by the testing date, you are encouraged to use a personal device until the loaner laptop arrives. Please make sure to look for an email from gcaequipment@georgiacyber.org which asks you to select a UPS shipping date so you will be able to make sure a trusted adult is at the address to sign for that delivery.
What is pre-admission testing?
It is an adaptive test, meaning it asks things your student may not have been taught yet, and they should just make their best guess. Some portions of the test will be read to the student. These tests are not meant to be stressful, so please encourage your student to just do their best but not to get upset when they don’t know the answer to something. These tests help us know what your student already knows so we are able to provide the resources and staff needed to serve your student well.
You can assist with logging in, but PLEASE DO NOT HELP your student by reading to them, answering questions, or explaining the questions to them. This could result in the test getting progressively harder and the student being placed at a reading and/or math level that is much too hard for them to do on their own this year. If the proctor observes that the student is getting help, they may ask you to stop the test and an administrator will contact you to discuss retesting options.
