In our recent Hootworthy interview, we had the chance to chat with Jack, Michael, Gabe, and Joey, four GCA students who recently became published authors. Each of them took a unique approach to storytelling, resulting in four books that they shared with us.
Michael's book, "The Joy of Mill Pond," follows a frog on an adventurous quest to find his lost friend Jimmy. Jack wrote "Treasure," a tale about a brother who sets out to find his missing sibling. Joey's "The Last Fox" tells the story of a fox navigating obstacles to find his way home. Gabe created "Popcorn City," where Arthur, a popcorn-obsessed boy, gets sucked into a popcorn-themed world and must save it from an evil plot.
The journey of writing wasn't without its challenges. Gabe mentioned the difficulty of translating ideas from his head to the paper. Michael found it tricky to pick the right words, Joey struggled with keeping track of his storyline and characters, and Jack thought editing was the hardest part. Despite these hurdles, they all enjoyed the creative process. Memorable moments included Jack receiving a gift related to his book from his nana and Joey enjoying weekly feedback sessions with his cousins.
Being students at GCA has its perks, too. Jack appreciates having a flexible schedule, Joey loves the friendly teachers, Michael enjoys the games and his teachers, and Gabe values the patience and kindness of his teachers, who balance their classes well.
These young authors remind us that with a bit of creativity, perseverance, and support, great stories can come to life. You can find their books on Amazon if you would like to check them out. Stay Hootworthy, Jack, Michael, Gabe, and Joey!
