"Being a veteran working with GCA has be so beneficial to me. It has helped me gain confidence in the workplace without sacrificing my health. I have learned a great deal being with GCA that has improved my social abilities. I have gained great friends, which has been a struggle for me in the past, after leaving the service."

"The Navy offered me a solid foundation, essential skills, discipline, and the chance to explore the world. I worked in intelligence, where I met my husband of 30 years in Brawdy, Wales, United Kingdom. We were also stationed in Okinawa, where our first child was born. Through my military experience, I developed leadership skills and gained exposure to diverse cultures, while also cultivating discipline, resilience, flexibility, and adaptability. Above all, I was fortunate to find my soulmate and start a family. My time in the military profoundly influenced my life, and I am truly grateful for the opportunities and invaluable experiences that have transformed me."

-Monica Baros, Counseling & Student Services Data and Reports Coordinator

US Navy Veteran

"As a veteran who served as a Military Police officer, my experience has deeply influenced my work at GCA. The military instilled in me values like discipline, attention to detail, and the importance of clear communication, which have been essential in managing my responsibilities here. I’ve learned to stay calm under pressure and navigate complex situations with a focus on structure and accountability, traits that have helped me effectively handle student attendance matters and support my team.

Additionally, my military background has given me a strong sense of duty and service, which translates into my work with students and staff. I strive to create an environment where everyone feels supported, and I am always looking for ways to be proactive in solving problems. The ability to adapt to changing circumstances, something the military taught me well, has been crucial in managing the evolving needs of our students."

"As a Supply Specialist, I enjoyed ensuring that soldiers were properly outfitted with all their safety and personal gear, as well as their armory. Whenever a soldier needed their Battalion Dress Uniforms replaced, they would come to me within our company. As a soldier, remaining alive depends on how well each fellow soldier is prepared. Everyone supported each other's physical, mental, and emotional well-being. In this way, we could remain ready to protect each other, our communities, our country, and our allies. It was an honor to have served."

-Kimela Bryant, SGB Science Teacher

US Army Veteran

"The Air Force gave me the self-discipline and confidence needed to to attend college. The Air Force taught me to adapt , improvise and overcome. These skills have served me well teaching at GCA."

"I became a naturalized U.S. citizen and joined the Air Force in 2012, driven by a desire to give back to the country that offered me so many opportunities. My family immigrated from Mexico when I was just a year old, hoping to build a brighter future for me and my sisters. I'm proud to be the first in my family to graduate from high school, earn a college degree, and serve as a veteran in the world’s greatest Air Force.

Serving as a Bioenvironmental Engineering Technician was a deeply rewarding experience, one that taught me invaluable life lessons and instilled a strong sense of purpose. I’m profoundly grateful for this country and can say with confidence that my parents' sacrifices were not in vain; the opportunities I’ve had here have allowed me to live the American dream. This is a picture of my daughter, Gia, and I on the day I graduated from Air Force bootcamp!"

"As a newly graduated high school student, I was not on a good path in life. The military was not only a way that I was able to serve my country, but it gave back to me by helping me to develop life skills which caused me to create a better future for myself.

I am proud to have served my country and thankful that I had the opportunity to do so."

-Cheryl Midgorden, Family Engagement Liaison

US Navy Veteran

"I joined the army in 1998. It was the best decision I have ever made. I was able to get free college tuition and at the same time I had the opportunity to serve this great Country! I loved my MOS - Water Purification! I was able to serve in humanitarian missions while traveling around the world. It was a win-win!"

"I served as a Medical Service Corps Officer. Being an officer and just being in the military has made me who I am today. I value everything, even the small moments. I don't take anything for granted and am thankful for all my blessings.

Being in the military made me into the person I am today. I gained valuable experience in leadership and teamwork. I learned to value everything and take nothing for granted. I want to leave a legacy as a soldier and as a teacher where I am remembered as someone who was an inspiration to others. I came from a very small town and the military opened up the world to me."

"The Army taught me to adapt, improvise, and overcome ~ my favorite quote from Heartbreak Ridge ~ which I now use as part of my signature. You have to be flexible in the military and as a teacher. I want my students to "Be All They Can Be", and I help them with this by setting my expectations high and guiding them."

-Catherine Simpson, Teacher

"Serving in the military has equipped me with knowledge, skills and abilities I could not have obtained anywhere else.  My military experience has given me a foundation to build upon and has helped me grow as a man, a professional, father and colleague.  I wouldn't trade my time in service for anything in this world. I was my pleasure to serve. No mission too difficult, no sacrifice too great. Duty 1st"
