We are so excited to announce that GCA PTSO President Barbara Maddox was recently selected to join the State School Superintendent’s Parent Advisory Council.
This council is a group of parents from across the state that provides input on new policies, projects, and materials that impact students and their families. Throughout the entire state of Georgia, only 30 members are chosen to participate in the council and will meet with the State School Superintendent several times throughout their two-year term. Members are chosen based on their capacity to lead, current levels of involvement in their child’s school, and responses to application questions.
Barbara has been a proud GCA parent for three years. She has actively participated with PTSO for over three years as Vice-Treasurer, Treasurer and now President. Ms. Maddox has also been an engaged PAC member for two years. She is a dedicated and committed parent to her student and to GCA. Each day she pours her heart and time into supporting the mission, vision, and culture of GCA through active participation. Her main mission is to support the faculty at GCA and give back to the students and families. During her time with the PTSO, she has managed to increase participation within the PTSO executive board, parent to parent support via social media, and the volunteer program.
When asked why she would like to join the Superintendent’s Council, Ms. Maddox responded “I want to be a voice for my family and many others. Sometimes people are not able to speak up for themselves and they need someone to do that for them. I would love to be that person.”
Congratulations Barbara! We are so proud to have you represent our Champions at the state level.
