Canvas

If an assignment uses files from Google, the Google file can be synced within Canvas.  The Google Drive web service allows you to integrate Canvas with your Google Drive account. All users can authorize their Google Drive accounts for access to Google collaborations and assignment uploads.

How do I connect to Google Drive as a web service in Canvas as a student?

NOTE: Both the teacher and student must have their Google Drive synced with Canvas.

To edit notification settings in your Canvas account (Student and/or Learning Coach):

1. Select "Account" from the left navigation menu, then select "Notifications"

2. For each course activity, select the type of notification you would like to receive by selecting the corresponding icon.  Notification types are:

• Notify me right away
• Send daily summary
• Send weekly summary
• Do not send me anything

3. To specify how you would like to receive the notifications, select "Account" from the left navigation menu, then select "Settings".  
4. Select "+ Email Address" or "+ Contact Method" to add an email address or number for text messages.  Note: if text messaging is selected, text messaging rates may apply.

Note: Students and Learning Coaches can have different settings for notifications.

1. Login to your Canvas account.
2. Select the calendar icon on the left side navigation bar.

3. Check the box beside ALL of your courses that end in the number "2" to make sure that they show on the calendar.  Example: Ninth Grade Literature and Com - 23.0610002

One of the many benefits of the Canvas Online School is the ability to integrate with Google for Education services including Google Drive.  The Google Drive service must be re-registered periodically in order to access Google Drive, Google documents, and teacher assignments.  

Please re-register the Google Drive service in your student Canvas account by following the steps below:

1. In the student account, click on the menu item labeled “Account” and choose “Settings”

2. Scroll down to see the section titled “Web Services” and look under “Registered Services” where you will find "Google Drive":

3. Hover over the "Google Drive" link showing your student GCA email address and then select the red “x” from the pop up box.

4. After selecting on the red “x” you will see a message asking, “Are you sure you want to unregister this service?”.  Select “OK”.

5. After unregistering the service, Google Drive will appear under the “Other Services” column.  Under "Other Services", select “Google Drive”.

6. Authorize Google Drive Access in the pop-up box by selecting "Authorize Google Drive Access".

7. A new browser tab will open asking you to choose the account to associate with Google.  Use the student G-Suite GCA credentials. (Example: student999999@georgiacyber.org)

8. Select “Allow” to allow Canvas to access your Google account.

You have now completed the re-registration of your student Google Drive Canvas integration and can access Google Drive, Google documents, and teacher assignments.

Pairing Code

In order to view your student's account through a Learning Coach/Observer account, you will need to first retrieve a pairing code from your student's account.  Please follow the steps below.

1. Login to your student's Canvas account at: https://georgiacyber.instructure.com/. 
2. Select "Account" from the left-hand navigation then select "Settings"

3. Select "Pair with Observer".

4. Copy or write down the six-digit alphanumeric pairing code shown.  This code will be used to pair the Learning Coach/Observer account with the student's account.  Example:

Note: The pairing code will expire after seven days or its first use.

2. Log into the Canvas Parent Portal using the parent email address that we have on file: http://georgiacyber.instructure.com/login/canvas

• Note: This url link is NOT the same link that is used for student accounts

How to Download

1. On your mobile device, head to the Apple Store or Google Play Store.
2. Canvas provides apps for different participants in your education experience. Search for your respective app:
   • "Canvas Parent"
   • "Canvas Student"
   • "Canvas Teacher"
3. After selecting your app, select "Install" on the right-hand side of the screen and app installation will begin automatically

How to Navigate Canvas Parent

After downloading the Canvas Parent App, search for "Georgia Cyber Academy - PARENT" as shown below.

Main Landing Page

The Main Landing Page displays your student's grades for each course they are enrolled in. The bar in the top left displays all menu options.

After selecting a Course from the Main Landing Page you can view the grades for each assignment within that course under the left tab "Grades". You can view information about the course under the right tab "Front Page".

Other Menu Options

The menu options, which can be seen by clicking on the icon in the top left corner, display screens where you can "Manage Children". This option enables you to switch between viewing each of your students' grades. 

You can also select "Set Notifications" to receive alerts about when your students' grades are updated.

Selecting "Help" will display different options for additional support including Jigsaw Support, Canvas Guides, GCA Technology Assistance, and more.

1. Where can I download the Canvas Mobile App?
   • You can download the Canvas Mobile App in the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
2. Can I receive push notifications?
   • Yes. To enable push notifications select "Set Notifications" under "Manage Students". You can elect to receive notifications when grades are changed, course information is updated, etc.
3. Is the App more updated than the website?
   • Both the App and the website are updated automatically and accurately reflect your student's most current information.
4. What is the difference between Canvas Student and Canvas Parent?
   • Canvas Student is the Canvas App intended for your student. It enables them to submit assignments, speak with their teachers, and complete functions essential to being an active student. Canvas Parent is intended for parents/guardians of students. It allows them to check grades, assignments, and other functions essential to being an active participant in a student's education.
