WriteScore

GCA utilizes WriteScore as a resource for formative ELA assessments to help our schools, teachers, and students improve literacy. Students will be focused on developing comprehension strategies that will enable them to manipulate grade-level texts of appropriate complexity and communicate effectively in writing.

2nd Grade Information:

On October 8th, second grade ELA teachers will be administering the Write Score Assessment during the ELA session. Please be prepared to assist your student with logging in to Write Score. You may review the video included in this article for information on how to login.  Once logged in, students must complete the assessment independently.

Elementary Grade Band (3-5) Information:

On Monday, October 7, please be prepared for the assessment by logging in to class promptly on time.  The timer will begin 5 minutes after class starts.  Each student will have 90 minutes unless otherwise specified. Please remind your child that if they decide to walk away during the assessment, the timer will not be stopped. You may review the video included in this article for information on how to login.

Secondary Grade Band (9-12) Information:

We are preparing for our Fall WriteScore administration. WriteScore administration will take place in class during the week of October 7-11. Students who currently have 9th Grade Literature, World Literature, American Literature, or AP Language will be completing the informational/expository essay.

This assignment contains two reading passages, a couple multiple choice questions, and a writing prompt where students use evidence from the passages to develop a thoughtful response in an essay format.  This counts as a test grade in their English classes. Students must be present and on camera for the duration of the assignment.
