A School Day Designed for Student Success

We are continually working to strengthen student support and achievement. This updated structure allows live instruction and independent learning time to work together in a way that supports mastery, application, and academic growth.

No. The total instructional day remains the same. The difference is how learning time is organized within the existing schedule. Students will continue to receive the full instructional time required by the Georgia Department of Education. 

Yes. Students will continue to participate in live, teacher-led instruction each day. Students are expected to actively participate in live sessions. Teachers request cameras on to support engagement, collaboration, and classroom interaction. Live sessions remain central to introducing and guiding new learning.

Live instruction is "teacher-led learning". These are focused, real-time sessions where the teacher guides the whole class through new concepts and skill mastery. They are designed to be engaging and fast-paced to help students stay on track and grow academically.

This is structured learning time when students complete teacher-assigned activities independently instead of attending a live class session. During this time, students may work through recorded lessons, guided practice, projects, or other assigned tasks.

Students are expected to complete assignments within the timeframe set by their teacher. Teachers monitor progress, review completed work, and provide feedback to help students stay on track and continue making academic progress.

Think of this as customized learning time. During personalized learning, your student works on activities chosen by their teacher to match their individual strengths, needs, and skill level.

Much of this time is asynchronous, meaning students work independently through teacher-assigned lessons, activities, or practice. This allows students to focus on the specific skills they need to strengthen or master.

At times, personalized learning may also include synchronous support,where a teacher or staff member works directly with a student or a small group to provide additional guidance, clarification, enrichment, counseling, or support services.

Throughout this time, teachers monitor progress, review completed work, and provide feedback to help students stay on track and continue making academic progress.

This is synchronous, small-group support. Teachers use student data to identify areas where a student may need additional help or an extra challenge. They then work with small groups of students to provide focused instruction, practice, or enrichment designed to support each student’s learning needs.

Teachers assign specific tasks, review completed work, and provide feedback. Participation is documented through completion of assigned work, demonstrated progress within learning platforms, and other academic deliverables assigned by the teacher.  

Support is built into the schedule. Students who need additional help may participate in targeted small-group support sessions where teachers provide additional instruction or guidance.

Time is intentionally included within the schedule for small-group support. Teachers use student data to provide targeted instruction and guidance when additional help is needed. Students will continue to receive required services and accommodations. Our schedule adjustments are designed to support all learners.

Families typically receive student schedules in late summer prior to the start of school. For the 2026-2027 school year, we will follow the same timeline. Individual student schedules may vary based on grade level, courses, and student needs.

Students will continue to take an active role in their learning each day. Students will:

• Attend and actively participate in live sessions
• Complete assigned learning activities
• Meet established deadlines
• Use personalized learning time productively

Teachers will provide guidance and feedback to support student progress.

Students are expected to log into Canvas daily, attend all required class sessions, actively participate, and complete their assignments on time. During live sessions, students are expected to be on camera to support engagement and accountability. Progress is monitored regularly, and if a student falls behind, our team will implement targeted interventions and supports in an effort to help them get back on track and stay successful.

Families play an important role in helping students build strong routines and learning habits. You can support your student by:

• Supporting a consistent daily schedule
• Encouraging engagement in live classes
• Checking in on assignment completion and deadlines
• Creating a quiet, organized workspace
• Communicating with teachers and staff when questions arise
• Understanding the role of the Learning Coach in helping students stay organized and accountable for their daily work

No, personalized learning and asynchronous learning are not optional. Personalized learning and asynchronous learning are a required and purposeful part of the daily schedule. They are designed to support skill development, practice, and progress.

Personalized learning and asynchronous learning occur during structured learning time and are a required part of the school day.

Yes, students are required to complete assigned tasks. Students are expected to complete assigned tasks during asynchronous or personalized learning timeframes.

Completion of assigned work during this time is one way participation and attendance are documented. Missing assigned work during personalized or asynchronous learning is addressed the same way missed instructional time would be.

Asynchronous and Personalized Learning timeframes have specific instructional purposes. Students are expected to focus on the tasks assigned during these timeframes.

This time is structured and teacher-directed — not unstructured free time.

Personalized learning and Asynchronous learning are flexible in that students may work independently during these timeframes, but assignments remain time-bound.

Teachers provide clear deadlines and checkpoints. While students may have flexibility within the timeframe, work must be completed within the timeframe established by the teacher.

This time is designed for students to focus on their individual learning needs or required services. This time is not designed for student work to be postponed.

If student data indicates that additional support would be beneficial, participation in Targeted Support sessions is required.

You can think of this as small-group help. These sessions provide focused time for clarification, intervention, or enrichment based on individual needs.

The 2026–2027 schedule intentionally structures the school day around four connected instructional elements:

• Asynchronous learning
• Personalized learning
• Small-group targeted support

The overall school day length remains consistent. What has been refined is how the school day is organized to support focus, engagement, and student ownership of learning.

Teachers remain actively involved throughout the day — providing instruction, assigning work, monitoring progress, and offering feedback.
