Primary Grades (K-2)

Early learning at GCA focuses on building foundational skills through structured routines, live instruction, and close Learning Coach support.

For our youngest learners, the school day runs from 8:00 am to 1:45 pm, with three 90-minute instructional blocks. Each block includes live instruction in core subjects (English/Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies, PE, Health, and Art), along with time for independent work, breaks, and lunch (11:15 am - 12:15 pm). These early grades thrive with close Learning Coach support throughout the day. We emphasize student interaction and offer various in-person social activities and community events.

Georgia Cyber Academy partners families and students with certified teachers who provide live, teacher-led instruction and ongoing academic guidance. Teachers actively monitor student progress, provide feedback, and support mastery of the curriculum.

Students participate in scheduled virtual classes led by their teachers and follow a structured daily schedule that outlines live lessons, independent coursework, and graded assignments. This structure helps students build consistency, accountability, and strong learning habits.

For students in grades K–2, daily success depends on active Learning Coach involvement. Younger students require regular guidance and supervision at home to support live class participation, assignment completion, and overall academic engagement.

In addition to academics, Georgia Cyber Academy emphasizes student connection and engagement. Students have opportunities to interact with peers through virtual activities and select in-person social and community partner events, supporting a sense of belonging within the school community.

GCA Primary Grades (PGB) serves students in grades K, 1, and 2 who reside within the state of Georgia.

PGB Learning Coach Expectations

Daily Support Is Essential

In the Primary Grades, student success depends on active, consistent Learning Coach involvement throughout the school day. Young learners require close supervision to participate in live classes, complete assignments, and develop foundational academic skills.

While certified teachers provide live instruction and academic guidance, they are not physically present with students. The Learning Coach serves as the primary day-to-day supervisor, helping students stay engaged, organized, and supported.

What Learning Coaches Do in K–2

Learning Coaches are expected to:

• Be physically present for most of the school day
• Support live class attendance and participation
• Monitor assignments, grades, and progress daily
• Enter attendance each school day
• Communicate regularly with teachers and school staff

This level of involvement is critical. Students who do not receive consistent adult support in K–2 often struggle to stay engaged and make academic progress.

Elementary Grades (3-5)

Upper elementary students continue to build academic independence while benefiting from consistent schedules, live instruction, and teacher support.

Elementary students attend school from 8:00 am to 2:10 pm, also with three instructional blocks, but these are 100 minutes long. Just like our primary students, they'll experience live instruction in core subjects, independent work time, breaks, and lunch (11:30 am - 12:30 pm). Support and enrichment sessions are available as needed.

Georgia Cyber Academy partners families and students with certified teachers who deliver live, teacher-led instruction and monitor academic progress across all core subjects. Students participate in scheduled virtual classes and follow a structured daily schedule that includes live instruction, independent work, and graded assignments.

As students progress through grades 3–5, they are expected to build greater independence and academic responsibility, while still benefiting from consistent adult support at home. Learning Coaches play an important role in helping students stay organized, attend live classes, and complete assignments on time.

GCA also emphasizes student engagement and connection at the elementary level. Students have opportunities to interact with peers through virtual activities and select in-person social and community partner events, supporting both academic and social development.

Who is this intended for?

The Elementary Grades (EGB) program serves students in grades 3–5 who reside in the state of Georgia. This program is well suited for families seeking a structured virtual school experience with strong teacher involvement and clear academic expectations, and who are prepared to support their student’s learning at home.

EGB Learning Coach Expectations

Guided Independence with Ongoing Oversight

As students enter grades 3–5, they begin developing greater independence, but consistent adult guidance remains necessary. Learning Coaches play a key role in helping students manage schedules, complete assignments, and maintain academic accountability.

Teachers provide live instruction and monitor progress, while Learning Coaches ensure that learning expectations are met at home.

What Learning Coaches Do in 3–5

Learning Coaches are expected to:

• Monitor daily attendance, assignments, and grades
• Support students in attending live classes on time
• Help students manage coursework and deadlines
• Maintain regular communication with teachers and staff
• Ensure accurate attendance and test integrity

Students in this grade band benefit from daily check-ins and structured routines to build strong academic habits.

Middle Grades (6-8)

The middle grades emphasize accountability, organization, and academic focus as students transition toward greater independence.

Our middle schoolers have a longer day, from 8:00 am to 3:35 pm, starting with Homeroom. Their schedule consists of seven 50-minute periods and a 60-minute lunch break. Most students attend five live classes daily, covering core subjects. Independent work time is incorporated, and teachers provide support and enrichment as needed. We encourage students to follow the pacing schedule set by their teachers to stay on track.

Georgia Cyber Academy’s Middle Grades program is designed to support students as they transition to increased academic independence while maintaining clear structure and teacher guidance. Certified teachers provide live instruction, assign coursework aligned to academic standards, and monitor student progress throughout the school day.

Middle school students follow a structured class schedule that includes live instruction, independent work, and regular assessments. Students are expected to take greater ownership of their learning, including managing assignments, participating in live classes, and communicating with teachers as needed.

Student engagement remains a priority. GCA offers opportunities for peer interaction, virtual activities, and select in-person events, helping students stay connected while developing responsibility and time-management skills.

Who is this intended for?

The Middle Grades (MGB) program serves students in grades 6–8 who reside in the state of Georgia. This program is a strong fit for students who are ready to take increased responsibility for their learning within a structured, teacher-led virtual environment, with continued family support and oversight.

MGB Learning Coach Expectations

Supporting Responsibility and Accountability

Middle school students are expected to take increasing responsibility for their learning, but they are not yet independent learners. Learning Coaches provide oversight and support to ensure students stay engaged, organized, and accountable.

Teachers deliver live instruction, assign coursework, and provide feedback, while Learning Coaches reinforce expectations at home.

What Learning Coaches Do in 6–8

Learning Coaches are expected to:

• Monitor academic progress and attendance regularly
• Ensure students attend and participate in live classes
• Support time management and organization
• Communicate with teachers as needed
• Address concerns early if a student begins to fall behind

Consistent oversight during the middle grades helps prevent academic gaps and supports long-term success.

Secondary Grades (9-12)

High school students engage in structured coursework designed to prepare them for graduation and postsecondary pathways, with increasing responsibility for their learning.

Our high school students have a traditional school day starting at 8:00 with homeroom and going through 3:35pm.  They have four 90-minutes block classes per day.  Eight total courses are taken over two semesters. Independent work time is incorporated daily and teachers provide individualized support during class time.  Students also have the opportunity to take AP and Dual Enrollment classes during the school day. Student engagement and on-time assignment completion is critical for student success.

Enrollment availability for secondary grades may be limited based on capacity.

Georgia Cyber Academy’s Secondary Grades program provides a rigorous, teacher-led virtual high school experience designed to prepare students for graduation and postsecondary goals. Certified teachers deliver live instruction, provide academic feedback, and support students in meeting course requirements and graduation expectations.

High school students follow a structured schedule of live classes and independent coursework, with increasing expectations for self-management, accountability, and academic ownership. Teachers provide guidance and support, while students are expected to actively engage, meet deadlines, and communicate proactively.

Students may have opportunities to pursue advanced coursework, dual enrollment, and academic pathways aligned to their future plans, depending on eligibility and availability.

Who is this intended for?

The Secondary Grades (SGB) program serves students in grades 9–12 who reside in the state of Georgia. This program is best suited for students who are motivated, able to manage their time effectively, and prepared to meet the academic expectations of a structured virtual high school environment.

Oversight with Increasing Student Independence

High school students are expected to manage much of their learning independently; however, adult oversight remains essential in a virtual environment. Learning Coaches provide structure, accountability, and support while encouraging students to take ownership of their academic responsibilities.

Teachers guide instruction, assess progress, and support students toward graduation and postsecondary goals.

What Learning Coaches Do in 9–12

Learning Coaches are expected to:

• Monitor attendance, grades, and course progress
• Ensure students meet academic and graduation requirements
• Support communication between students and teachers when needed
• Reinforce accountability and time-management expectations

Even at the high school level, students who receive consistent adult oversight are more likely to remain engaged, motivated, and on track for graduation.

Primary Grades K-2 (PGB) operates on a block schedule. Blocks are 90 minutes each and occur 3 times per day.

What happens during each block?

During each block, PGB students will have:

• ELA/Phonics, Math, and Champ Lab.
• Science and Social Studies with specific focus on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
• Whole group and small group instruction.
• 10-20 minutes of breaktime in which students remain logged in but are able to walk away and take a break from their computer.
• Electives and Counseling on some days during Champ Lab time.

What is Champ Lab?

PGB Champ Lab is a time set aside for to address the specific needs of students. Teachers and students meet in small group rotations so students can work on skills they need more practice in. Teachers can also provide enrichment for students who are ready for more. No new content is introduced during Champ Lab.

What is Champ Lab?

Champ Lab is a small group time set aside for to address the specific needs of students. During EGB Champ Lab, students have the opportunity to remediate or accelerate beyond what has been covered in their content classes. 

Middle Grades 6-8 (MGB) operates on a standard schedule with 50-minute periods. MGB students have 5 minute breaks between classes and are allowed to take breaks during class.

Secondary Grades 9-12 (SGB) operates on a block schedule. Blocks (Periods) are 90 minutes each and occur 3 times per day.
